Claude Robert "BoB" Wood
(classmate Paula Smalling husband)
U.S ARMY
1951 - 1953 PVT 1st Class
At the age of 81, peacefully in his sleep yet unexpectedly, the morning of December 24th, 2011 Bob Wood passed away. Mr. Wood was born in Dilly, Texas on May 25th, 1930.
He was the only child to Claude Wallace and Lela Wood. His father was a barber and his mother a home-maker.
Upon graduation in 1947 from Dilley High School he tried attending Uvalde Junior College, but after a year of studies, he said it wasn't for him.
In 1951 he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany until 1953. He then retuned home and decided to move to Persall and while there was a barber.
Moving to Jourdanton he continued to be a barber. Then in 1964 he moved to Pleasanton, where he gave haircuts for $1.00 and shaves for 50 cents. In 1974 he sold his barbershop and moved back to Dilley to open up a clothing store.
Selling the clothing store in 1976 he moved back to Pleasanton deciding to go into the real estate business.
The next year, 1977, he joined the K-Buck Gunslingers and performed in many events in and around the Pleasanton area. While still selling real estate, he realized he had enough properties for himself and became a landlord.
Most of his properties were rented to low income because he wanted to help those in the community anyway he could. He was a long time member of the Lion's Club and Mason's.
In 1990 he married Paula Smalling and she helped him with all the rental properties of which he now had 30 places. Bob was discovered for a movie in 2007, "The Wildman of the Navidad".
He played a moon shiner by the name of Earl Smith. One time he said he was very fortunate that everything he had done in his occupations was something he enjoyed, but he really enjoyed portraying a moon shiner.
When Bob was born they broke the mold. He was loved by everyone he came in contact with and some he never had the pleasure of meeting. Proceeded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. Claude Wallace Wood.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years Paula Wood, a son Robert Earl Wood and wife, a daughter Misty, granddaughter Kelsi, a grandson Christopher James, many cousins, and lots of friends.
He will truly be missed by all. Per his wishes he is to be cremated and to not have any formal service. A memorial will be held at Cowboy Fellowship on....
